Description
Drawing of Jesus standing before Pontius Pilate for interrogation. In the right foreground a crowd stands with their back to the viewer, jeering at Jesus. Pontius Pilate is seated on a platform on the right side of the image. According to the gospels, Pontius Pilate found no grounds for punishment but condemned Jesus at the request of the crowd. His denial of responsibility for this decision is indicated by the artist, who depicts him washing his hands with the help of an assistant. An inscription along the lower edge reads: Pilato si lava le Mani Sulla Condannazzione di Jiesu Cristo.
The drawing is part of a set of works depicting the Passion of Christ.
