Description
Oil painting of a landscape scene, Titahi Bay in Wellington, New Zealand. View is from the top of a hill looking down towards the bay, hills and the sea. In the foreground are yellowed grasses and an unsealed road curving down the hill. In the middle ground are a horse drawn covered carriage on the road and a large group of figures, many in white dresses, wearing sun hats, carrying baskets, walking down the hill towards the sandy bay. To their right are trees, fences and a row of telegraph poles. Beyond them is a two-storied house overlooking the beach with smoke coming from its chimney. To the left of the house is a golden sand beach with a couple of boat houses and a dinghy near the water's edge. Behind the beach is more hills edging the sea. To the right are a number of houoses along the top of the hill line, with greenery overlooking the sea on the other side of the hill. The sky is filled with horizontal bands of grey/blue clouds. The whole scene has the feel of a hot sunny day where the grass and road are dry and possibly dusty.
