About the Work
An example of Ellis' comfort with bold use of colour and intuitive modernist style she developed under the tutelage of Antonio Dattilo Rubbo . This work was made around the time Ellis was accepted into the Royal Art Society,where it was exhibited. Ellis exhibited with this group from 1942 - 1951. By this stage in her career she had become n well known and established artist and was also teaching at Rubbo's school which had been moved to 70 Pitt Street in central Sydney.
