About the Work
The
work
is
one
of
my
typical
deadpan
jokes
essentially,
where
the
decade
past
is
only
represented
by
the
year
as
painted
numerals,
rather
than
any
specific
event
or
subject
-
this
leaves
those
issues
of
'visible
content'
up
to
the
viewer
and
it
is
for
them
to
conjure
up
images
from
their
mind
for
any
given
year.
Individually, each painting has it's own rationale and colour code relativity; each is a definitive experiment as well as a conclusion on my colour arrangements of 'pingy' juxtapositions using enamel paint colour. So although at first they may seem rather lacking in content, conceptually they are subtly expansive and open ended but the discourse relies on viewer (and / or curatorial involvement), rather than passive looking and an expectation of the work to do the job of 'entertaining'.
