the
Whanganui
town
wharf
which
was
located
immediately
down
river
from
the
town
bridge,
near
where
Trafalgar
Square
shopping
centre
is
located
today.
The
town
wharf
was
the
focus
of
wharf
activity
until
1908
when
Castlecliff
Port
was
developed
to
service
the
frozen
meat
trade.
By
1956
it
was
no
longer
economic
to
operate
both
ports
so
the
town
wharf
was
closed.
