Description
Joanna Margaret Paul moved to Wanganui in 1984. Her work as a painter and poet was intertwined with her life and documented her surroundings and daily existence. She viewed her practice as “not a job, not even a vocation. It is part of life, subject to the strains, and joys, of domestic life.”
This series of five pencil drawings capture fragments of the world around her and the landscape of Wanganui. In the same way we observe our everyday environments, Paul’s works capture minutia within a larger landscape, momentary flashes of colour and detail.
