About the Work
"Such a beautiful painting. Edith Collier’s use of colour feels really modern here… The tones in the woman’s face and the warmth of her expression are wonderful and unexpected."

Description
Oil painting on board portrait of a woman. Showing head and shoulders, the woman is most likely seated in a red backed chair. She is wearing a dark shawl or coat over a white shirt. Her left arm is folded with her hand splayed over her chest. Her head is tilted slightly and she is looking at the viewer. The forms are simplified into blocks of colour and the woman's face is painted in planes of colour with strong angles, highlights and planes across the face. Framed and not glazed in a wooden frame painted off-white.
