About the Work
"The
Nauru
portfolio
represents
one
aspect
of
an
ongoing
and
long-term
commitment
to
photograph
the
changing
post-colonial
landscape
of
the
Pacific.
The
photographs
were
made
in
1991
with
the
final
production
of
the
series
being
completed
in
1995.
The
final
images
have
been
reproduced
via
the
paper
negative
process,
similar
to
that
used
by
19th
century
photographers.
In
a
symbolic
sense
this
places
the
work
within
a
historical
framework
roughly
equivalent
to
that
of
Nauru's
exploitation
itself.
