Description
"Jean Zuber presents a series of paintings created before and after he came to Wanganui as Tylee Cottage Artist-in-residence. The works in the Silhouettes – Egg Series are his first impressions of New Zealand colours, shapes, and the attitudes he found in the European and Māori bi-cultural environment.
Jean says, ‘what struck me is the identity and sense of belonging contained in the key word Whakapapa. It is what I portray in the shape of the egg, symbol of the Universe. This shape has become the link which runs through this series of paintings’. He hopes viewers ‘will recognise in the synthesis of the shapes a poetic definition of this country’."
