About the Work
[This series of] complex works are made up of a myriad of image and many animals can be found. Sheep, cats, dogs, birds and fish all collide and meld into landscapes, dreamscapes and architectural forms. These small and intimate works are like looking through a keyhole into a black and white world of surreal memories.
- Bending Hammers Introduction
Many artists at Tylee Cottage find the experience of the residency triggers off a new body of work or takes them into a new head-space and, for John, his time in Wanganui was partly documented in an extraordinary body of intricately detailed pen and ink drawings.
