About the Work
'A Foot in the Door' is an installation of one foot of a ruler set discreetly and non-visibly into the front door of the Gallery. The work explores the formalities of the first professional contact made between an artist and a gallery. It is a physical manifestation of the agreement between the artist and gallery. By staging this installation the Sarjeant Gallery has literally given the artist "a foot in the door" and has helped an emerging site based installation artist perform an ambitious and important work in his artistic career. This installation was offered to a number of Galleries and relevant organisations. Every gallery that agreed to stage the work further ratified the conceptual credibility of the project.
