About the Work
This photograph shows an earlier Post & Telegraph Office building on the corner of Ridgway and Victoria Ave. The ground level was constructed in 1869 and a second floor and bell tower with a four dial clock were added in 1881. This wooden building was demolished in 1901 to allow for construction of the current Post & Telegraph Office building that remains on the site today.

Black and white photograph of street scene showing the earlier Whanganui post office building on the corner of Ridgway Street and Victoria Ave, as seen from Ridgway Street looking towards St Hill Street. At the centre of the intersection is the Watt fountain. On the street are many pedestrians and several hourses with carts. The Post Office building is wooden with a clock tower on the front corner.
