Description
Series of 12 photographs of the Island of Nauru and the relationship between culture and nature.
The following is printed on a sheet of loose A4 paper contained in the solander box:
"The Nauru portfolio represents one aspect of an ongoing and long-term commitment to photograph the changing post-colonial landscape of the Pacific. The photographs were made in 1991 with the final production of the series being completed in 1995. The final images have been reproduced via the paper negative process, similar to that used by 19th century photographers. In a symbolic sense this places the work within a historical framework roughly equivalent to that of Nauru's exploitation itself.
The tiny island of Nauru is in essence a place with a definite history but an uncertain future.
