About the Work
I found this a challenging subject. Considering the drama of the past it is quite a passive optimistic work.
- Nigel Brown, May 2019

Three years before his death in 1984, Philip Clairmont left Auckland to live in an old disused hotel in Mangamahu, he turned a part of the hotel into an art studio and produced a number of paintings while living there. After 18 months of living at the Mr Clairmont left Mangamahu and returned to Auckland, not returning to the hotel before his death. Nigel Brown stayed with Clairmont at this hotel circa 1983.
