About the Work
In this monoprint I wove placenames with a river view in middle. The figure suggests Māori carving. At this time I was not conscious of macrons. This came more later when I worked with Glenn Colquhoun on North South Book and it became more emphasised generally. The residency also made me aware of tribal differences and issues before Pakeha. I don't speak Māori but Sue McLaughlin has Ngati Manu whakapapa of Mana which we were only beginning to be aware of back in 1990s. Not exhibited.
