My dear Edith,
Thanks for all the letters you have written me I know it has been my turn to write this long time. Thanks also for the very nice useful present you sent me, just what I needed a [illeg.] [illeg.].
So you have not wanted to come & stay with me. I made sure you would have been down last holidays. I was on the look out for a letter from you saying you were coming. You will be leaving College soon & then you can come any time. But I suppose you will be thinking of doing some thing for a living. It is a grand thing to the independent & I think it right for girls as well as boys to earn their own living. One never knows what may turn up. You might be left a widower with a family to provide for (of course you will be getting married) & then you could take to your old work again. Are you going to Uncle Franks wedding. You will soon have two Aunt Marys. You will have great times with the boys when you come down perhaps mother would let you stay with me in the xmas holidays I do not want to stay at Grand-ma’s so long this time as we are too large a family this time. I am not sure yet whether we will be up at xmas or later on. Grand-ma will have so much expense with Frank getting married that I don’t care about [bringing?] such a crowd.
You will see a good few changes in Feilding when you come There has been quite a number of shops put up & a new Post Office & school & lot of houses. The lollie shop is still in the same place. You had better start saving up your pennies.
Now Edith old girl I must say good-bye. Love to all not forgetting Miss Davis.
From your affect
