My dear Edith,
I was very very pleased to receive your nice little letter. You gave me a grand lot of news. I suppose you stay at Grand-mas a good deal now & sleep in my old bed. I am looking forward to the time when you are coming to spend your holidays with me. I hope your mother will let you come & then we will have a good time. I am glad you liked me in my wedding dress. I suppose you and Jack enjoyed yourselves on that day with all those nice things to eat. Yes Edith the rice they threw at us did hurt & it was too bad of them to give us so much. It was dropping out of our clothes for days & it got in the railway carriage & was a great bother all the way down.
Thursday morning
I had just got this far with your letter when Uncle Harry was taken with a great pain in his side. I got a terrible fright as he was so bad. I did not know what I should do. I got boiling water & dipped towels in & put that to his side & it did him a great deal of good. I am glad to say he is even so much better today & is able to go to school. Uncle Harry comes home to see me for about 10 min every dinner hour. he takes a short cut home & has to jump a wide ditch & he thinks that is how he hurt his side because he jumped on to his left foot & gave himself a pain in the side at the time. I am glad to hear that Dorothy is better. I often wonder what you are all doing up in Wanganui. I just want a nice little girl like you to stay with me to keep me company while Uncle Harry is away at school. I have a nice little kitten now to eat up all the scraps that I do not know what to do with. I want to get some fowls & then we will be able to have nice fresh eggs. We got nice butter & good bread & meat. I have to cook such small dinners How is May now? I hope she is getting stronger. I forgot to tell Grand-ma that Mrs Collier had sent me ½ doz tea spoons. What a crowd of presents I did get. Everyone admires Mothers [illeg.]down quilt & it is grand & [illeg.] too. We have a fire in our bedroom every night & it is nice & cheerful looking. Now Edith I must close & get on with my work. I hope you are getting nice & strong. Give my love to Mother, May Jack & all the others with heaps for your own dear self.
