My dear Edith
I thank you so much for yr very kind & sweet letter I received yesterday & also I want to thank you for all the [illeg.] you sent us on yr way home. [illeg.[ dear [illeg.] was always so interested & pleased when they came, & thought it so good of you to remember dear. I ought to have written to thank you before but you will understand how painful (in fact I have found it impossible) to write to anyone yet. [illeg.] what our loss is, how terribly we miss our dear one, to write of him is so harrowing you will forgive – I must just tell you that he was quite happy & heaven knew he was fatally ill, always spoke of what we would do when he was better, we did everything that love and devotion could do, that is our only solace, our children were all so good, & have done everything in their power for me since, [illeg.] and Stephen took me to Southport where I stayed for a month, to recover a little, as I was quite done up mentally & physically
I was pleased to hear of Harry & wife having another addition to their family, it shows that Mrs [illeg.] must be better, please give my love & congratulations to them I am sure you must feel very strange after living so long in noisy London to settle down at home, [illeg.] was in London in May & she insisted on my coming down for a few days, they all thought it would do me good, so I went in the end, we so often spoke of you & we went up to Whiteleys one day just to see yr district, & although we had not time to go to Leicester Sq this showed me where it was, & a store (I forget the name of it) were [where] you used to go for meals often she said, I was very interested in it all – it was fiercely hot whilst we were there – [illeg.] is in the Isle of Man for a month just now, staying with Aunt Marrienne who has a house there for the summer, Hilda & her 4 children are coming over from San Francisco, & they are all going to the I.O.M (Isle of Man?].
Fannie is now a very busy person since she got this staff appointment at the university. I am glad to say she has a very long holidayfrom now until the second week in Oct, of course she will have Lectures for next winter to prepare but still it is a fine vacation I was sorry to hear of yr Gr [Grand] Mothers illness, these things are very sad I hope yr Mother & Father are well, please give them my love & many thanks for their dear sympathy, also all the boys It must be very gratifying to yr father to have such a good [illeg.] in the family as Thea [illeg.] yr parents very pleased with yr work – did it all arrive safely?
All from me my very best love to you Edith, & once more thank you ever so much for yr tender feeling for us. Write again when you can.
Yr loving
Aunt Fannie
I shall like the [illeg.]
