My Dear Miss Collier
I thought I would write to you this time and explain our reasons for wishing Mary to go by the direct line of steamers. In the first place she does not stand the heat very well and although that would be the best season for [illeg.] I rather dreaded risking it. We decided however that before sending you our answer we would ask Dr Fitzgerald’s opinion as he had been both ways and would know what was best for Mary. Mr Frazer saw him today and he advised us [illeg.] to let her go by the Orient Line on account of the heat. He said that although it is the coolest time for [illeg.] the heat in Melbourne at that season would be too much for her if she had to stay there even for a day or two – He says it will be a good time for going round Cape Horn.
