Dear mother & father
I wrote you a long letter Sunday & here today I went to post it & it isnt [sic] here lost it somewhere, so this will have to be short. I heard from Reg 2 days ago he isnt [sic] in action yet. He seems to be doing alright [illeg.] Heap & Fannie write to him & send him things & Mrs Hardy is sending him a pair of socks & I send him Things, so he doesn’t do bad in that line, I am enclosing one snap I’ll send some more later on, it was taken up at Aunt Fannies, it is Reg, Papsie & Stephens sister & I taken in Uncle Regs back garden. I heard from Hal yesterday he is getting his 3 weeks leave & then going into camp again. Last Sunday night about 9 o’clock Mrs Proctor came up stairs [sic] & said a Sergt. wants to see you I said I know no Sergts it must be the floor below so I trotted & brought him up, he had just come from the trenches & had a letter from Jim & brought some films which Hal had left behind. Sergt. McKay was his name, he said they were up to their waists in water in France, {Reg gets none of that) he joined when war first broke out. He left here about 10 o’clock I took him along to the underground & put him on the right train for Euston & he went straight up to Scotland. Jim said he was acting as orderly at present & is having a fairly easy time, but he said it is cold. Must be off to post
