About the Work
TRANSCRIPTION:
Dear Collier
Thanks for your card. I am so glad you had such a good time with your relations & feel better for the change & ready for work again. I wish I were coming back this term as I miss my work, & the dear old ‘wood’ & all of you dreadfully. My people think it is time I did something as I am looking out for some children to teach. But have not heard of any as yet. I dare say I shall turn up occasionally for the monthly shows. By the way, I wish you would find out when the next show is to be. I believe the Dec: & Jan: subjects are going to be [illeg.] together, as we didn’t have last December subjects. It was very kind of you to wish to buy my sketch of the ‘Gate way & ducklings’ (which by the way were supposed to be chickens!) & which I sold at the Christmas show. I am sorry, Collier, as I would have liked you to have had it. However, I may do something [illeg.] on that may please you. I am of course keeping up my outdoor sketching & I just long for the fine weather. What do you think of our English winter? Does it in any way come up to your New Zealand climate! Mr Walker thinks of looking out for a sketching place on the river somewhere near Oxford I believe, which sounds a delightful place. I had a long letter from Bryer. She seems to be having a good time in Italy, & enjoys the scenery & life in general – you must come to tea some day. If it is not too late I wish you a happy new year & success with your art. Aurevoir! [sic]
With [illeg.] love
Yours very sincerely Zahn
