About the Work
Colour photograph taken from a performance piece where artist Julia Holden physically painted the subject in reference to an artwork from the Sarjeant Gallery collection. In this case the reference artwork is an 'Untitled' painting from the Sarjeant Gallery collection by Michael Smither. The model is Michele Davies.
This work is part of a suite of 5 works that were first exhibited in 'Julia Holden: Sarjeant Portraits' that was shown at Sarjeant on the Quay during Julia Holden's Tylee Residency - 22 Dec 2018 - 17 Feb 2019. The five works were shown incorporated within a larger exhibition to commemorate the 125th anniversary of womens' suffrage in New Zealand '125: Celebrating Women from the Collection'. The '125...' exhibition also included the five source works that Julia Holden was referencing.
