Part of the Collection Focus series: this is a selection of works on paper by Gordon Walters (b.1919 – d.1995) from the Sarjeant collection. Walters was a New Zealand painter and printmaker well-known for his artworks of interconnecting and intersecting forms. The rich visual vocabulary he developed and worked with throughout his career emerged from his unique perspective as a pioneering abstract and modernist artist working in New Zealand. His work, particularly ones based on the koru form, initiated an ongoing dialogue about the appropriation of traditional forms by non-indigenous artists. On display at Sarjeant on the Quay until 13 May 2018.
