The singing of the Divine Office, (let nothing come before the Work of God - Rule of St Benedict), is the primary work of the Tyburn community. Seven times a day the community processes into the sanctuary for the hours of Nocturnes, Lauds, Terce, Sext, None, Verspers and Compline. The entire Psalter is chanted each week in English, to music composed by the sisters. The purpose of this liturgy, to sanctify time and all human activity will be achieved in our community...(M foundress 1901)

Alongside prayer and work, lectio divina is one of the foundations of monastic life. It is the art of meditation in the Benedictine way of life. Its aim is to feed the prayer life through a meditative reflection on the work of God, a reflection or pondering in the heart rather than an intellectual exercise. The spirit of Benedictine prayer is implicit in the opening image of the prologue to the rule; Listen...incline the ear of your heart.

There is usually an hour for recreation at 3.20. This might be spent outside playing games like rounders or badminton or skipping, or inside the community room doing craft work and socialising.
