Jock Leggott

Biography
Henry John Elder Leggott (1925-1981) known as Jock or Jack, was a builder and joiner by trade and took up painting in the mid-1960s. He was closely involved with the Taranaki Art Society and was president for some years. He married Dulcie Marion Evans (b. 3 Mar 1929 Stratford, d. 24 Jan 1983, New Plymouth) on 1 Sep 1951 at St Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Stratford, Taranaki. Dulcie's parents were Edward Douglas (known as Argoyd) and Claribel May Hickton Evans (née O'Leary). They were furnishers in Stratford. Jock and Dulcie lived in Stratford from 1951-1959, Urenui 1960-1964, and New Plymouth 1964-1983. They had three children: Michele Joy in 1956, John Evan in 1957 and Jane Claire in 1962. After Jock's death in 1981 his daughter Jane organised a retrospective show of his artwork in New Plymouth.
