Marcus King was born in Manaia, Taranaki. He was a landscape painter who studied at Elam under Claus Fristrom. After his service in World War 1 he moved to Wellingtom where he worked in advertising.
He taught at the Wellington Technical Institute and exhibited at the Academy of FIne Arts and was on the Council.
He later became an artist with the New Zealand Tourist and Publicity Department - being the name behind many pictorial advertising posters promoting New Zealand.
