Andrew Carbery

Biography
Born and educated in Ireland, son of a surgeon who served in the NZ wars. Took a medical degree but studied art also with Henry Stannard of Bedford. He arrived in NZ in 1898, exhibited with the NZ Academy of Fine Arts. Holding office for many years and became a leader of art life in Wellington. Worked mainly in watercolours. Exhibited: NZ section of Wembley Exhibition 1920; work included in Centennial Exhibition, Wellington 1940; represented at Waikato Art Museum Hamilton, Sarjeant Gallery Te Whare o Rehua Whanganui, Te Papa Tongarewa, and Alexander Turnbull Library.
