Lawrie Major

Biography
Lawrance Major, born in 1900 was the Custodian at the Sarjeant Gallery through the 1950s and 1960s. The Gallery has three watercolours painted by him, one of which was donated by the Wanganui Arts Society in 1972 to recognise his long service both to the Gallery and the Arts Society.
Lawrie Major’s involvement with the Arts Society started about 1948, and he was a Vice-President for two years in the mid-1960s.
A photograph of him appears courtesy of The Wanganui Chronicle in Kindred Spirits, the Wanganui Art Society Centenary 1901-2001, published by the Sarjeant Gallery.
He died in 1994.
