Shirley Hoult

From Newspaper clipping 1949 (Wanganui Chronicle?) "WANGANUI WINNER OF SCHOLARSHIP FOR ART LEAVING FOR ENGLAND. Miss Shirley Hoult, Selwyn Street, winner of the Carnegie Travelling Scholarship awarded by the Auckland Society of Arts, leaves Wanganui next Saturday for Auckland where she will embark on the Wairangi, scheduled to sail on January 18 for England. Well know in art circles in the Dominion for her work in portraiture, Miss Hoult expects to gain further experience in this branch of painting while overseas. Awarded periodically by the society, the scholarship is open to artists throughout the Dominion who submit their work for judging, preference being given to a student of painting. The scholarship is tenable for one year, and if satisfactory progress is made a further year's study is provided. Fellow members of the Wanganui Arts and Crafts Society farewelled Miss Hoult at a presentation gathering in November, when the good wishes of the society were conveyed."
