Peter Ireland

Biography
Peter Ireland was born in Hokitika in 1947, is self-taught and has been painting full-time since later in 1976, apart from two periods of two years each working in art and educational institutions in the 1990s. In 1977 and 1985 he was the recipient of grants from the QE2 Arts Council. His first public show was in 1981 and since then he has been involved in almost 100 exhibitions. He lived in Gisborne 1983-1995, moved to Wanganui in 1995 as a Tylee Cottage Artist-in-Resident and settled there afterwards. His work is held in many private collections and the following public collections: Christchurch Art Gallery; College House Collection, Christchurch; Lincoln University; Massey University, Palmerston North; Ministry of Affairs & Trade (NZ High Commission, London; (NZ Embassy Warsaw); National Library Gallery, Wellington; Sarjeant Gallery, Wanganui; Tairawhiti Museum, Gisborne; Te Papa Tongarewa, Wellington; Te Manawa, Palmerston North.
