Arthur Barnes
Biography
Born in 1901, Arthur C. Barnes was educated at Fordell Primary School and the Wanganui Technical College. He gained a B.A from the University of New Zealand through Victoria University, Wellington and a Teacher’s Certificate. He studied art at Wellington Technical College Art School in 1922. Arthur C. Barnes spent most of his teaching career in Whanganui and Taranaki regions which includes the Wanganui Intermediate School 1933-46 and headmaster at Apiti District High, Queens Park School as well as schools in New Plymouth.
Mr Barnes became a member of the Wanganui Arts Society around 1932 and became president of the Society from 1950-51. He was a member of the Taranaki Art Society between 1954 and 1972 and rejoined the Wanganui Arts Society in 1975.
