About the Work
"A large and rich picture. A young fellow who has enlisted during intoxication is seen before a house, with a tree next to it, with his mother and sweetheart remonstrating. Full also of delicate and true motives in other respects, and for warmth and power of colouring and admirable keeping the most important picture I know by him. Signed."
