The Sarjeant Gallery’s nationally significant collection comprises over 8,000 artworks and archival items spanning four centuries of European and New Zealand art history.

Our collection is one of the country’s most comprehensive surveys of New Zealand art history and, as a whole, is unrivalled in regional New Zealand. Of particular note is the vibrant Tylee Cottage artist residency programme which leads our contemporary collecting.
