Rough preparatory pencil sketch for a painting showing trees and shrubs with hills on the Whanganui river bank with many hand-written notes on the sketch including the date and the following "The sun raising a steam from river with patches of grey-blue water in between" also noting Ruapehu as "a grey blue smear".
