About the Work
My Father the late Mr T.L. Drummond was one of the early New Zealand landscape painters. He was a foundation member and life member of the Auckland Society of arts and his works have been shown in many exhibitions in New Zealand as well as overseas. One of his paintings hang in the Boyd Trust collections in the Auckland Art Gallery.
The scenery of the Wanganui River always appealed to my father and it was after one of his visits to the river that he painted the picture under offer.
- F.L. Drummond, the artist's son, in a letter to the Sarjeant Gallery dated 11 July 1958

Description
Painting showing a peaceful scene of a river with hilly banks to the left and a lower riverbank to the right. There is a waka in the distance on the river, another one close to the right bank with 3 people in it: one seated, one small child, and a standing figure. To the immediate right of the waka are three people on the riverbank, one in the edge of the water. To the far right of the image is a waka pulled up on the riverbank. The water surface is incredibly still and reflecting the hills. The light is caught on the slopes of the hill overlooking the river which makes it appear to have snow on it. There is another hill in the distance.
