About the Work
“This is an example of the type of art I would hang in my home. It’s geometric shapes and bold vibrant colours make it stand out in a contemporary way and the Tiki incorporates my New Zealand and Māori heritage, giving me a sense of identity to the painting. I love the merging of a modern abstract design with something steeped in culture and ancestry.” – Hannah Houshangi, 'My Choice' February 2022

This artwork was completed during the artist's residency at Tylee Cottage in 2013. The tiki figure is one of the pair of bookends left at Tylee Cottage by John Perry, the building is the Tylee garage, and the geometric design overlay is from architectural features of the Whanganui War Memorial Hall.
