About the Work
This photograph taken by Annie Davis is of early NZ Modernist painter Edith Collier (b.1885, d.1964). It is taken in 1898 when Edith was 13 years old. It is most likely that Edith and Annie Davis's sister Ethel were friends as there is correspondence between Ethel and Edith in the Edith Collier Trust Archive.
Annie Davis owned a studio, together with photograph Emily Collis, in Whanganui's Ridgway Street from 1899-1901. She subsequently moved to Auckland where she had her images published in the Auckland Weekly news in 1911 and 1912.
This record represents an archive item and has related works.
