Brisé fan

Unknown, Maker

This is one of the decorative arts in our collection. It was made in China in circa 1900.
About the Work
This is a Chinese export fan produced for the European market c 1900. The pieced design with a central medallion is a typical neo-classical design of these fans. It is most likely a late example of its type due to the absence of guards at either end of the fan, which usually perform the function of guarding the sticks, and is likely intended as a decorative object rather than a functional one.
