Dear Ed,
I have just written to Harry who is up river still. We have really neglected him so I believe Mum & I are sending a packet today. Cake seems to be the most welcome. Thea has holidays just now and are doddling around the shops seeking a hat for Thea, have got one at last. Thea went purchasing herself the other bought shoes at Thorpes very nice ones 18/6 quite a bargain she reckoned! Made mum raise her eyebrows. Dad likes our Irish Biddy very much quite proud of you. They are very keen for you to sign name & place date & name of scene. He is looking forward to the old mans arrival Dad gave me a fat cheque today £1 [illeg.] so I have been splashing round a bit. feel a bit mean one consolation not much of the goods is for me. We had a musical evening last night. Elane[?] Paton played duets with Dad & very well. Duets please Pa. Thea was coaxed to play Barcarolle (this while Dad was out) Pa returned suddenly in the middle of the performance so no more would she play & Dad has heard from her hundreds of times.
Aunt Emma & baby boy nearly 3 has been up at Grandma’s 10 days had lovely weather She is looking very well. Got your address from me so I suppose you will see a letter one of these days. Adeline’s mother is coming to stay amongst the relations shortly. Shes the best of the lot isn’t she. Pity she has such a hard time of it & so far away. Fancy Adelline getting married. I saw Gerty Furgood[?] today with a fat baby. My Ed, you’ll have to hurry or you’ll be the only one left.
Alf Littlejohn is going to the war. Jim is in camp. [illeg.] in England somewhere received [illeg.] a lead from shrapnel but [illeg.] now.
I have holidays from music just now. Miss Price wants me to go to the Heads someday with her. I’m not very brilliant at the violin. Played last night before about a dozen people. Was horribly nervous.
I read a toast just now which would be suitable for a soldier laddie to make.
