From the series 'A Savage Mind'.
Colour photograph of a pile of mattresses covered in brightly patterned cloth stacked up inside a wharenui (Māori meeting house). Overhanging the side of the stack of mattresses is a person's arm, the person is lying sandwiched between the top few mattresses. The interior is darkened with a spot of sunlight on the person's arm and the floor below. The floor is wooden parquet, the walls are covered in tukutuku (woven) panels, and the beams on the ceiling are painted in kowhaiwhai designs.
