Peter Masters

Biography
Peter Masters was born in England. He worked full-time as a studio potter in Canada and New Zealand before coming to Australia in 1986 to teach at the Darling Downs Institute of Advanced Education in Toowoomba (now the University of Southern Queensland). From 1991-92, he taught ceramics to aboriginals at the College of the South West in Roma. In 1993, he lectured in ceramics at the Northern Territory University in Darwin. From 1993-96, he was Head of Ceramics at the University of New South Wales, Sydney. During the early 2000s he taught in Denmark, England and Hungary and in 2008 he moved to the United States where he went on to add glass to his repertoire. He has a B.A. in Fine Art/Design from the University of Alberta obtained in 1966, a B. Ed. from the University of Calgary obtained in 1968 and a Masters of Fine Arts(Ceramics) from the University of Puget Sound, Tacoma, Washington, obtained in 1978. In the 1990 directory he says "all my work, vessels and sculpture, is of woodfired and/or salt-glazed porcelain and stoneware clays, often employing slumped white earthenware with commercial stains fired to cone 9".
