Biography
Dame Doreen Blumhardt ONZ, DCNZM, CBE
•1914 - Born Whangarei and schooled Whangarei.
•1934-39 - Christchurch Teachers' College, University, and Art School
•1942-48 - Appointed by Dr Beeby (Director of Education) to pioneer Art and Craft Education in Primary Schools throughout N.Z.
•1951-72 - Appointed head of Art Department of Wellington Teachers College.
•1958-70 - Assisted in creation of 'N.Z.POTTER'
•1969 - Member Advisory Panel for NZ Pavilion for EXPO' 70 in Osaka, Japan.
•1969-70 - Awarded QEII Arts Council travel grant to study ceramics in the Phillipines, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, USA, Greece, Turkey and Middle-East.
•1973 - Appointed to QEII Arts Council Advisory Panel.
•1980 - Awarded CBE
•1981 - Elected Fellow of Royal Society of Arts (London).
•1991 - Honorary Doctorate of Literature, Victoria University, 50 Year Retrospective Exhibition, and 'DOREEN BLUMHARDT, Teacher and Potter' by Marion McLeod published.
•2004 - established The Blumhardt Foundation at The Dowse to foster, support, collect and display the best examples of New Zealand decorative arts and design.

•1989 - Governor General's Art Award.
•1982 - QEII Arts Council Fellowship
•1971 - QUII Arts Council Scholarship
•1968 - Major Prize, Xth International Exhibition, Biance e Nero, Lugano, Switzerland.
•1957 - New Zealand National Art Gallery Travelling Scholarship.
