About the Work
Most likely these designs by Vivian Smith are based on motifs from wallpapers by Jeffrye & So. or Essex and Co. both firms which ran London showrooms. These designs are in the so-called 'Aesthetic' taste, popular from the 1870's, and are similar to the work of E.W. Godwin, one of the main exponents of this style, or a follower.
