Description
Notebook containing loose manuscripts:

a) Notebook with a black cover and red linen spine. The notebook contains information about Vivian Smith’s art training, including classes taken between 1898 and 1907, his South Kensignton results for 1905-1906, and prizes won, as well as his work as a teacher at the Sheffield Technical School of Art and the Royal College of Art in London. Other topics covered include jobs that he applied for, his appointment by the Wellington Technical College in 1912 and subsequent journey to New Zealand, financial data, military service, classes taken, reviews of his work, and art materials purchased.

b) Receipt from Wanganui Technical College to Vivian Smith, dated 16 December 1933, regarding the refund of an overpayment.

c) Handwritten note regarding grades for the years 1932 and 1933.

d) Handwritten note, dated 21 February [1943?]. The heading reads: Art First Years. It records the daily timetable for boys and girls classes.

e) Receipt from the State Advances Corporation of New Zealand to Vivian Smith, dated January 1940, regarding the payment of a mortgage.

f) Newspaper clipping, titled: Lubricating Rubber. Source and date unknown.

g) Printed instruction sheet published by the New Zealand Education Department regarding the 1932 Annual Intermediate Examination for Lettering.

h) Printed instruction sheet published by the New Zealand Education Department regarding the 1933 Annual Intermediate Examination for Still-Life Painting.
