It is part of a sheep farming property also known as Lamb Hill. The property was first occupied by the former physician Dr James Allison after he emigrated from Glasgow in 1840. The property was later divided into four farms: Lamb Hill, Thorn Hill, Fern Hill and Overletham. One section of the property later became known as Letham.
