Joy Neighbour

Biography
Joy was born in Ashburton, New Zealand on 26 December 1938 and educated at Nelson Girls College. She received her art education at Polytech and on University extension courses. She married Peter Russell Neighbour and had four children (2 boys, 2 girls). She had a solo show in Whanganui in 1975 and has exhibited in group exhibitions in Wellington in 1972 & 1974, Whangarei in 1976 and Whanganui in 1976. She was a member of the NZ Academy of Fine Arts, as well as the Whanganui Art Society. She cites her artistic influences as being Gauguin, Miro, Rousseau and Kandinsky at different stages but doesn't know that any one of these has had a decisive influence on her own work.
